Star Showers® Virginia Creeper
Parthenocissus quinquefolia 'Monham'

How to care for Star Showers® Virginia Creeper
Light. Full sun to part shade. It tolerates full shade, but red fall color is best in sun.
Water. Water while it establishes. It then handles heat and drought, and also takes occasionally wet soil.
Soil and feeding. It does best in fairly rich soil high in organic matter, but tolerates hot, dry spots and most soils, including slightly alkaline ones.
Size. A fast vine that climbs 30–50 ft or more with tendrils tipped by sticky disks. It needs no support and also creeps along the ground.
Pruning. Trim regularly to keep it in bounds. Keep it off wood siding, gutters, shutters and wiring; the holdfasts are hard to remove.
Problems to watch. Watch for beetles, scale and leafhoppers; mildew and leaf spot are occasional. Seeds sprout readily, so pull unwanted seedlings.
Good to know. A Florida native that drops its leaves in winter. 'Monham' has white, paint-splatter markings. The berries are poisonous to people, and eating them can be fatal.
