How to care for Weber's Agave

Light. Full sun. Like other agaves, it thrives in a sunny spot.

Water. Water while it settles in. After that, agaves are highly drought tolerant and need little irrigation.

Soil and feeding. Plant in well-drained sandy soil. Agaves tolerate alkaline soil, and good drainage matters more than feeding.

Size. Grows to about 5 ft. Leave room around it, since agave leaves end in sharp points.

Pruning. Little needed. Snip off the sharp leaf tips where children and pets play.

Problems to watch. No serious pests are normally seen.

Good to know. Most agaves bloom once on a tall spike, then the rosette dies; the pups at its base carry on. The sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves. Many agaves are salt tolerant, and the flowers attract hummingbirds.
