Torchwood

Amyris elemifera

A VERY SLOW growing Florida Native can make the perfect tree in small spaces. Host plant to Giant Swallowtail and the rare Schaus' Swallowtail butterfly. They give off small, fragrant white flower clusters that attract a variety of pollinators and their new growth is often red then turns dark green and glossy when mature. Highly tolerant to salty winds.
  • Fun Fact: Often the green wood was used to make torches, its twigs burned as incense and mature wood into posts and furniture!
