Lady Lavender Passion Flower

Passiflora x 'Lady Lavender'

This vine not only gives off lightly scented, bright lavender color flowers but it is also one of the many host plants to the Gulf Fritillary butterfly! They bloom year-round and are great for fences or pergolas as they are quick growers and their foliage keeps its evergreen color while staying lush and full.

How to care for Lady Lavender Passion Flower

Light. Passion vines perform best in full sun but tolerate some shade.

Water. Like other passion vines, it needs well-drained soil but regular watering.

Size. Grows to about 5 ft. Passion vines grow as high and wide as their support, so plant at the base of a fence, trellis or arbor.

Pruning. Prune as needed to keep the vine in bounds. Keep it off tall fences and trees so it stays easy to trim.

Problems to watch. Butterfly caterpillars chew the leaves, slowing growth, but the vine recovers. Passion vines are susceptible to nematodes.

Good to know. Not all passion fruits taste good, and some are toxic. Do not eat the fruit unless the species is known to be edible.
