Often grown as a small tree or large shrub, This Florida Native is highly drought tolerant once established. It is the host plant to the for Horace's Duskywing, Red-Banded Hairstreak and White-M Hairstreak butterflies. The acorns are eaten by wildlife and is used for shelter including to the threatened Florida Scrub Jay.
